Welcome to any who have made a special effort to be here (in one way or another!) this weekend to remember your loved ones. A sad consequence of the pandemic has been the minimal celebration of funerals. However that has not stopped those who have died from being in our prayers and this weekend we have some small opportunity to demonstrate that. Eternal Rest give unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
God Bless

This fund, known as the Ecclesiastical Education Fund, pays for men studying for the Priesthood and Diaconate. It costs £30,000 a year, for six years, to sponsor each seminarian, so your support is vital to our ability to fund and support men saying ‘Yes’ to the vocation of Priesthood. We currently have 8 men in formation for the Priesthood for Southwark.
There are gift aid envelopes for you to take away and bring back next week. You can also donate online via http://www.rcsouthwark.co.uk/donate.html (select Priest Training Fund) Please be generous and keep our seminarians, and priests, in your prayers. Thank you.

As I mentioned last week, during the month of November, we will remember and honour those who have died in war and peace. Next weekend at our masses we will pray by name and light a candle for each of those who have died during the past year and we will recall all our loved ones who have died, as we light a large candle for them too. There will be blessings of graves at local cemeteries according to the list below.

On Wednesday the 4th, our mass will be offered for the deceased clergy of our parish and deanery. Sunday the 8th is Remembrance Sunday, when we will pray for all those who died in the two World Wars and other conflicts.

God Bless

There have been so many changes and rumours of change in the rules under which we conduct our ‘social selves’ that it is very easy to feel paralysed and do nothing. Instead we must be disciplined in what we do and while necessarily limiting our aims, we must plan for as normal a future as possible. For instance, it will soon be November, a month during which we traditionally remember loved ones who have died.
We hope to be able to contact everyone in the parish who has suffered a bereavement this year and invite them to attend our special masses during which we will pray for each of those who have died by name and light a candle for them. At those masses we will also be praying for our own loved ones who have died (however long ago) and lighting one large candle for all of them. You will be aware that for these last few years the processing of candles inside churches – except for altar servers carrying acolytes – has been banned. The candles will therefore, like last year, be static on the sanctuary and lit one by one.
Our plans for the phased reopening of our hall are of course now “on hold”.
God Bless

JOINING THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
A wonderful event postponed since the Easter Vigil is the reception into the Church of Petrea Henry. This takes place at the vigil mass this weekend. Please keep her in your prayers.

BIBLE TIMELINE COURSE
This world famous Bible study course is to be made available for free, for 7 Wednesdays at 7 p.m. from November 4th.
“The Bible can be quite intimidating, due to its size and complexity. Many Catholics long to read the Bible, but they don’t know how. The Bible Timeline Study System divides the whole Bible into 12 Periods, easy to understand and memorise. In the course you look through each of the 12 Periods. You will clearly see how the many characters and events in Scripture are related to each other in one unified narrative, from Adam & Eve to Jesus Christ. You will grasp the Big Picture of the Bible from start to finish, the Old and New Testament”
I have registered already! I am sending out the flier to all email recipients of the newsletter. To register though, simply go to http://www.comeandsee.org/registration.html Fr Doug
