Dear Parishioners,
Great news! You will remember that as a conclusion to the Church’s Season of Creation we had a screening in our hall of The People’s Emergency Briefing (about climate change). The hope nationwide was to prompt a debate in Parliament about the Climate Crisis here and around the world. Many around the country have been moved to contact their MPs and to petition the government. The good news is that ordinary people like us CAN have an impact. They have listened and a debate in Parliament is now scheduled for 16th November. Democracy, eh!
Now, SYNODALITY: the way we as individuals, and the church as institution interact. A small group engaged in consultation over this and produced a significant response to share with the Archdiocese at a meeting in November. We invite you as individuals to add your pennyworth by taking and returning a brief questionnaire, available in the foyer.
God Bless, Fr Doug
MARLENE BURT RIP: Marlene’s funeral will be on Friday October 30th at 10.00. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.
All of the details are on the family’s web page www.rsvp.studio/marleneburt Can people please let us know if you are coming via the link.
HARVEST CAKE SALE: Thank you to everyone who supported the Harvest Cake sale on Sunday. Together we raised £206 which will be donated to Cafod. Your support will assist Cafod in their mission as they reach out to people across the world who are truly in need.
GOSPEL OF MARK – Dr. Brian Purfield
Saturday, Nov 14th, from 10.30-3.00. refreshments from 10.00
Throughout next year we will be reading the Gospel of Mark at Sunday masses and so it is good for us to know a little about this gospel and particularly how it differs from the others. As in previous years we have invited Dr. Brian Purfield to come and talk about this.
OCTOBER ROSARY – Jesus Commissions Peter: “Do You Love Me?”
On this 5th Friday before mass at 9.20 because of the funeral, we will pray the last of the Romero Rosary’s Mysteries of Charity. We contemplate Jesus telling Peter: Feed My Sheep. We invite those joining livestream to accompany us and everyone else to pray the decade sometime during the day in solidarity with us.
NOVEMBER – remembering those who have died
Remembrance Sunday is of course the 8th November
Our Parish Remembrance Services for those who have died will be on 15th/16th November. We remember all our loved ones and we especially invite the families of those who have died during this past year to attend mass during which a candle will be lit for each named soul.
