We begin the last week in the Church’s year. The Feast of Christ the King is the last Sunday celebration. At the end of a year we often like to look back and also to look ahead – forward and backward, back and forth. Next week we will look ahead in our wonderful time of Advent and so this week we might reflect on a year that has passed, a tough one for many of us.
It can hardly get tougher than losing a loved one. This weekend we remember specifically those of our community who have died during the year. At their funerals we will have looked backward and forward too. We will have looked back and thanked God for their lives and all that their lives have meant to us. But we will have also exercised our Christian Faith and our Christian Hope to look forward to their lives to come. Today we will pray for each of them by name before praying for all our loved ones who have died.
May I offer a particular word of welcome to all who have made an extra effort to be here for this special occasion.
