BAKE AND DONATE FOR UKRAINE  – Thank you to everyone, who baked, donated and supported our fundraiser for Ukraine on Sunday. 

We raised £506 on the day and a further £206 was given in the retiring collection so the total amount raised is £712 which is amazing.  Your money will go to help get critical care to those who need it most, both in Ukraine and its neighbouring countries. ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1982 VISIT OF POPE St John Paul II To St George’s Cathedral 

There will be Mass with Anointing of the Sick on 28 May 2022 at 12.30 PM

Archbishop John Wilson will celebrate Mass to mark the fortieth anniversary of the visit of St John Paul II to our Cathedral. During this celebration, the sacrament of anointing of the sick will be administered, as it was on the occasion of St John Paul II’s visit. Parishes are invited to select two people (per parish) who might attend this celebration at the Cathedral as representatives of their parish and receive the sacrament of anointing. Please contact Fr Doug by Sunday May 1^st if you would like to attend. If there are more than 2 wishing to go, we will have a random selection procedure – a lucky dip!

First of all, I hope you are well! So many seem to have fallen victim in recent weeks to the Covid virus, but thankfully I haven’t heard of any parishioner with the very serious symptoms. We should though, be extra diligent in the precautions we take in church and in the hall. Let’s be as safe as we can.

We are continuing to work through all the offers of assistance that arose from the stewardship campaign this year.Your response was marvelous. It does take a while however, to put everything in place so if you haven’t received a response yet, please be patient. Equally if you have been thinking about offering your services, your gifts or talents to our community then now would be a good time as we recruit new teams and form new rotas.               

BAKE AND DONATE FOR UKRAINE   The Children’s liturgy group are holding a Cake Sale today after 10.30 mass. Cakes, biscuits, muffins, sausage rolls, should all be available.  All funds raised will be donated to The Red Cross. Our retiring collection box will be in the Church foyer for any who can’t support the sale itself but who want to contribute. Thank you  in anticipation.

Holy Week begins the week after next.  If we don’t plan for things they often pass us by, and the events and services of Holy Week can do just that.  We jump from Jesus entering Jerusalem to his resurrection, with no stops in between!  Please put in your diary the Holy Week services and try to be part of them.  The Church describes the sacred celebrations as The Easter Triduum:

I have been away for a few days this week walking some of the South Downs Way. It is an ancient path from Winchester to Eastbourne. What freedom there is to enjoy! How far away from Ukraine can you get, in so many ways? And still, the people there might be out of sight but they are not out of mind, and likewise those who have fled. Most of us can do little about it, but there are many who can and do. Let us not talk about unsung heroes who take in refugees and help in so many other ways. Let us celebrate them, their generosity and their lives. We thank and praise God for them.

We have another opportunity next weekend to offer some support through the Children’s cake sale. We will have our retiring collection box in the Church foyer for any who can’t support the sale itself but who want to augment the proceeds.

The Children’s liturgy group are running a fundraiser for Ukraine. We will be holding a Cake Sale next Sunday, 3rd April after 10.30 mass. All donations welcome so please get baking!
