THE OCTAVE FOR THE WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY is traditionally observed from the 18th to 25th January – our nine Churches Together in Old Bexley will be heeding Jesus’ prayer “that they all may be one” with a Unity Service hosted by Baldwyn’s Park Baptist Church, Dartford Road, DA5 2Y at 3pm on Sunday 27th January. Recently appointed, Thomas the new Archbiship of Canterbury, takes his duties seriously and his devotion to God soon brings him into direct conflict with the State and his lifelong friend King Henry II, leading to his assassination and martyrdom. ANNUAL MISSION APPEAL 2019: At St John Fisher 12/13 January. The Rt Rev Peter Smith has invited the Spiritans (Holy Ghost Fathers) to make their annual Mission Appeal in the Diocese of Southwark during the year 2019. These appeals are encouraged by the Bishops Conference as a means to inform parishioners of the churches wider mission. It also gives our priests an opportunity to share their life experiences and offer their ministry

GOA ORPHANAGE: Eileen & John Hollis are returning to Goa on the 26th January. We will be visiting the orphanage where the children are HIV. We have had amazing support from the parish family over the last 12 years. This gives medication, food, clothes and schooling and helped to finance the new building for the older boys. Last year 2 boys moved onto college. Please help if you can – (0208 303 4136, after 10.30 am Mass on Sunday. Thank you.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2019: Application forms are available for the First Holy Communion Programme 2019. Children eligible must be in Year 3 or above and should attend Mass regularly at St John Fisher, Bexley. Application forms are at the back of the church (porch) or please see Angela Underwood. If you are a new parishioner and/or do not attend Mass, please speak to Father Doug. Completed forms must be returned no later than 23rd December 2018. The programme will commence on Sunday 13th January 2019. Full details of all relevant dates will follow soon. Finally, we really need new volunteers to help run the programme. If you are interested in helping our children prepare for this special sacrament, please speak to Angela Underwood.

HIRE OF HALL: I have decided, after many years, to step down from dealing with the hire of our hall. I hope a parishioner can step forward to take over. I will of course be happy to help during the transition period.
