Dear Parishioners,
It was the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola on Friday. His legacy to the Church is enormous – He founded the Jesuit Order which took a prominent role in the Reformation of the Church – and arguably still does. He has inspired ways of prayer that are now gathered as “Ignatian Spirituality”, the flagship of which is the 30-day silent retreat called “The Spiritual Exercises”. One of his challenges to daily life is to “find God in all things”. Not so easy. Perhaps the start of such a way of life is to NOTICE things in everyday events. This requires us to slow down and not let the world rush by, and to be a bit more reflective about as many of the day’s moments as possible. May I suggest that hot summer days are a good time to practice this, and hot summer nights are a good time to review and respond.
God Bless, Fr Doug
CHRIS BAXTER RIP. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
Chris’s funeral will take place on Wednesday 26 August at 11.00.
HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS.
If you (or a family member) are admitted to hospital, do ask that your record indicates that you are a Roman Catholic if you would like a visit from the Chaplaincy or to receive Holy Communion. Hospital staff may forget to ask you about your religious background and due to data regulations, the Chaplaincy team cannot approach you unless your religion is on your admission record.
