Dear Parishioners,

This great season of Lent is the time to realign your life with the way of the Lord. The main thing is that we should make the main thing we believe in, the main thing in our lives!  Whatever you do, do some thing!

DIOCESAN LENTEN RETREAT: “Renewed in Hope”

There will be a video and then ideas for reflection along with a written summary. The theme is based on the Sunday readings of Lent. Sign up to receive it. You will then receive an email each Monday with the material. Use this link: https://www.southwarkdsc.org.uk/renewedbyhope

Alternatively, you can participate with others in 3 different church locations and share the experience with other Christians in Bexley. (The ‘video’ will be projected onto the ‘large screen’ and there will be time for reflection, prayer and sharing)

Please note that the lunchtime session here is using the readings for the Sunday following but the morning and evening sessions are in the week following the Sunday.

Mondays, 1.30 – 3.00 St. John Fisher Hall. We are a week ahead of the other groups.

Tuesdays 10.30 – 12.00 URC (opposite the war memorial) beginning 28th February

Wednesdays 7.30 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. St John’s Church beginning 1st March

Last Week: EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY APPEAL

What a wonderful sum was raised last week in this appeal. Well done us!

This week: CLERGY SUPPORT FUND

The Clergy Support Fund provides care for priests in their old age and retirement, if they need it, and also in times of ill health. A gift to this fund through today’s retiring collection will ensure dignity for our priests after they have given their lives in service to Christ, His Church and His people. In 2022 the fund provided care to 73 retired priests. Please support them today through your donations and please support them throughout the year in your prayer.

Next week: CAFOD Family Fast Day – Lent Appeal – Friday, 3rd March

This Lent, your donations to CAFOD’s Family Fast Day Appeal will help families fighting the climate crisis and ensure that our Church network can quickly respond to emergencies, like the recent earthquake in Syria and Turkey.  Give today using the envelope or at cafod.org.uk/give and please join us in praying for CAFOD’s development and emergency response work all over the world.

ORDINATION

We congratulate Mgr Philip Moger on his ordination as an assistant bishop on Tuesday at our cathedral, and we welcome him into our diocese.  He will be working in both S.E. and S.W. London areas.  His previous post was as Shrine Director at Walsingham.
