Dear Parishioners
I am pleased to be back but I had a wonderful week’s holiday on the Island of Gozo, near Malta. I was walking for the most part, but there was a bit of sight seeing to be done too, especially in regard to churches, basilicas and cathedrals. The Church community is thriving and the churches are so fresh – nothing tired-looking about them. The highlight was a short pilgrimage to the national shrine of Ta Pinu with its beautiful basilica, recently visited by Pope Francis.
Anyway, back to business!!
God Bless, Fr Doug
WELCOME FIA
We welcome Fia Webber into our Church at the 10.30 mass. Congratulations to her family
MISSION APPEAL
We welcome Fr Mario Cerda of the Verona Fathers who will be preaching the appeal for the Comboni Mission, and will be joining Fr Doug in the celebration of masses.
PRIEST TRAINING FUND COLLECTION – Next weekend
On Good Shepherd Sunday we always pray for vocations to the priesthood and we have our annual coolection to pay for the training of priests.
The priesthood has always been essential to the life of the Church. Once ordained, our priests dedicate their lives to serving Christ in various ministries in our diocese.
We currently have 6 men in formation to the priesthood in our diocese. We are blessed to have them but it costs £30,000 per year to sponsor each seminarian and the y study for 6 years before ordination! new do therefore need your financial support as well as your prayers. Please be prepared to give generously. You may prefer to donate online: www.rcaos.org.uk/donate/PTF
ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1982 VISIT OF POPE St John Paul II To St George’s Cathedral
There will be Mass with Anointing of the Sick on 28 May 2022 at 12.30 PM
Archbishop John will celebrate Mass to mark the fortieth anniversary of the visit of St John Paul II to our Cathedral. During the celebration, the sacrament of the sick will be administered, as it was on the occasion of St John Paul II’s visit. Parishes are invited to select two people (per parish) to attend this celebration at the Cathedral as representatives of their parish and receive the sacrament of anointing. Please contact Fr Doug by Sunday May 1st if you would like to attend. If there are more than 2 wishing to go, we will have a random selection procedure – a lucky dip!
CHURCH CLEANING
Please note a revised rota for week commencing Monday, 2 May is available for collection from the cleaners cupboard in the Sacristy. We now have two new groups. Each group will clean every ten weeks instead of six weeks previously.
