Dear Parishioners,
As we enter October we take on board two great Catholic traditions: First, October as a month of Our Lady when many will make extra efforts to pray the Rosary. We at St John Fisher will be saying a prayer to Mary (The Hail Mary) at the end of our Prayers of Intercession even though they are addressed to God, Our Father. October is also the month when we are asked to consider the World Mission of the Church, so we will be praying for the work of Cafod and all those acting in the name of the Church to spread the Gospel.
Fr Doug
CHILDREN’S LITURGY GROUP: We are happy to announce that Children’s Liturgy of the word will resume on Sunday 4th October during the 10.30am mass. Initially meetings will be held once a month on the first Sunday.
We are always looking for new volunteers to help with Children’s Liturgy. If you would like to join our small but dedicated team please speak to Father Doug or Angela Underwood.
GARDENING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – SAT. OCTOBER 9th: Please come along at 10 am to clear the church and presbytery gardens of weeds and trim bushes. Please bring forks, spades and secateurs if you have them. Carole Hughes.
CAFOD HARVEST FAST DAY: The CAFOD harvest fast day is on Friday 1 October and the second collection next week will be for that. Envelopes will be available to pick up at the Masses this weekend. The thrust of this Family Fast Day is to support people around the world working to protect God’s creation, and to help the poorest people adapt to climate change.
