Happy Christmas to you all.
These days of Christmas are more precious than usual, this year. We continue to celebrate the great Festival of Feasts until January 10th, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. There is plenty for us who celebrate the birth of our Saviour to cheer, even though our country is undergoing such an ordeal. We have been truly blessed to celebrate the great day itself in church or at least through the website recording of mass. It was touch and go, but we did it! Congratulations to all who enabled us to do so, and congratulations too to everyone who attended and patiently accepted all the restrictions we have to live with these days. A huge thanks to the stewards who put in so much effort to help us do all this safely. The church looks fabulous as ever. Well done to everyone who has played a part – so far- in our decorations and celebrations.
It has undoubtedly been a tough time though for everyone but particularly for those living alone. Now would be a good time to (carefully and safely) take stock of anyone who might be affected at this time in spirit, mind or body and do what we can to share some cheer.
Finally, Archbishop John reminds us: “the Church regards each day in the Octave of Christmas – the 8 days from 25th December until the 1st January, as if it were ‘Christmas Day’. So, if you haven’t been able to attend mass on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day this year, why not go to mass on any of these 8 days with the same sense of joy and solemnity.”
STEWARDING
We are very grateful to the stewards who have volunteered to staff the church during these times.
Please ring John Rayer (01322 523499) if you can help.
CHURCH CLEANING.
A big thank you to the small group of parishioners who give their free time to help keep our church clean. The rota for 2021 is now available for collection from the cupboard.
We would be grateful if more volunteers came forward to either join an existing group or make up a new one. At the moment, each group cleans once every six weeks. If we had another group of three or four people, that would change to once every eight weeks. If you think you might be able to help, please ring Carole Hughes on 07762 731303.
PARISH MASS BOOKS
For a £10 deposit you can take a copy home and bring it to church each Sunday. There is a series of them covering 3 years, when the next is due, you simply return and swap your copy for the next one in the series, or return it at any time to get your deposit back. Ask a steward if you want one.
RIP
We mourn the loss of Norma Brooker. May she rest in peace (Funeral on 30th Dec).
Vincent Jeyaseelan RIP, Mary writes: My family and I wish to thank all our friends at SJF who have sent cards and condolences and who have kindly arranged for masses to be offered. Thank you and God Bless, Mary Jeyaseelan
