I think we have all recognized that tasks that we are used to undertaking have been more difficult of late! Organising a Parish Reconciliation Service has been one such task. But I am pleased to report that a Service has now been arranged for Monday evening at 7.30. Fr Paul Fennessy will be coming from Holy Apostles Church, Swanley to help hear confessions. We will run the same service in Swanley on Wednesday at 7.30 in case Monday is busy for you. Celebrating this sacrament has always been an important part of our personal preparations for Christmas. In the service we will reflect together on God’s mercy, consider our own personal need for forgiveness and then make individual and confidential confessions to the priests on the sanctuary in order to gain penance and absolution.
Masses: Christmas Eve: 6p.m. & 10p.m. and Christmas Day: 9a.m. & 10.30a.m.
Again, thanks to everyone who has reserved places for masses at Christmas. At the 6.00 Christmas Eve mass, stewards will enable individuals or family “bubbles” to be seated 1 metre apart using all our benches. There can therefore be NO KNEELING. The other 3 masses look as if they can be organised in the usual way with 2 metre spacing, which does allow for kneeling.
We want to safely accommodate as many people as possible and so we need to know how many people wish to attend each mass. There are booking forms in church for each of the masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Telephone and emailed bookings will be accepted too. It may be that on the day it is not possible to give safe admission to someone who has not booked in advance. This will depend on numbers.
Archbishop John reminds us: “the Church regards each day in the Octave of Christmas – the 8 days from 25th December until the 1st January, as if it were ‘Christmas Day’. So, if you can’t attend mass on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day this year, why not go to mass on any of these 8 days with the same sense of joy and solemnity.”
We are not allowed to enjoy communal singing, but we will listen to recorded versions of carols. Masks will continue to be worn.
STEWARDING
We are very grateful to the stewards who have volunteered to staff the church during these times.
Please ring John Rayer (01322 523499) if you can help.
PARISH MASS BOOKS
It is good to follow the mass (especially the readings) in a missal if you have one.
We are offering the opportunity to borrow your own copy of the parish mass book. None can be available for casual or occasional use, but it is possible to keep and care for your own. Bring it to mass and take it home each Sunday. For a £10 deposit you can take your copy home and because there is a series of them covering 3 years, when the next is due, you return and swap your copy for the next one in the series, or return it at any time to get your deposit back.
RIP
We mourn the loss of Norma Brooker. May she rest in peace. (Funeral on 30th Dec)
Tony Speed RIP. Dorothy writes: My family and I wish to thank all our friends in SJF who have sent cards and condolences and who have kindly arranged for masses to be offered. Thank you and God Bless, Dorothy Speed
