Prayer of St. Alphonsus – (to be used when making spiritual communion)
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in this Most Holy Sacrament of the altar.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul so that. I may unite myself wholly to You now and forever. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Dear Parishioners,
You may be aware that the government is to allow public services to take place in churches from next Weekend, but with very severe restrictions. The conditions imposed will not by any means allow us to “return to normal”.
Our Parish Council is meeting early in the week to discern the best way forward for St. John Fisher and I will report its decisions to you all alongside my mid-week “Ramblings”.
So this week we will be open for prayer before the Blessed Sacrament between 10.00 and 11.00 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday just as we have been for these last few weeks.
The weekend again, will be the same as it has been up till now.
We hope to restore weekday masses after that (from July 6th) but serious decisions need to be made about the following weekend, as I say. So watch this space!

For this coming week the following applies to all those wishing to visit the church for private prayer:
• Anyone who is unwell or who is isolating should not attend.
• Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will commence before the doors open and conclude after they are closed. There will be no Benediction.
• Doors will remain open to ensure good ventilation and to avoid touching handles etc.
• Anyone under 16 must be with an adult.
• A limited number of people will be able to enter the church and “take a pew” with social distancing applied except for members of the same household or who are in a ‘Bubble’.
• Hands will need to be cleansed on entry. We have a hand dispenser available for those who do not have their own.
• Votive candles can be lit by taking a light from ones already lit.
• Masks will not be a requirement.
• Given that the virus only lasts on surfaces for a limited time, different seating areas in the church will be used each day.
• There will be no toilet facilities available.
• Two stewards are on duty each time the church is open to ensure this safe practice.

We are grateful to the stewards who have volunteered to staff the church during these opening times. One will be in the porch to give instructions and one will be in the church to supervise and to usher.
Those who volunteered to help cleanse the church will be all-important in the process of opening for Sunday masses!

OUR SUNDAY PARISH MASS will be available on the website in the (now) normal way.

We cannot use our parish prayer intentions book because the virus can be passed from one to another via its surface so I will place at the foot of the sanctuary a basket and anyone who wishes can bring in or send in prayer intentions which those in church will pray for in a general way and which I will offer up in our Sunday Mass. None will be read, let alone read out loud.

• If you haven’t found the parish mass, then on the website: go to the Sunday Mass button and click on there.
• If you are a Parish Reader you can exercise your ministry by emailing Peter Murphy on
• The parish office is open on a limited basis.
• You can receive this newsletter by email and also my mid-week “Ramblings” by emailing me at

God Bless
