Dear Parishioners,

Congratulations to all those who have been undertaking even slight changes in lifestyle to live MORE simply, sustainably and in solidarity with people in parts of the world less blessed than ourselves.

Thanks to those who are taking up our offer to take your unwanted electric items to the recycling centre rather than putting them in the landfill (green) bins. Also, thanks to those who are using our offer to bring food items to the foodbank. This is really for those having home delivery. What we collect we will bring to local supermarket foodbank collection points. Indeed, if anyone can bring a bag or 2 to a supermarket they frequent, it would be much appreciated! We are not in competition with the supermarkets!

If you have guests joining you at Easter, please take a little time to explain to them why we have a used Christmas tree on our sanctuary, covered in pledges. If you see strangers looking a touch confused, then likewise, take the opportunity to help them see how we can affect the dreadful course of our planet just a little bit. We’ve got used to it. The bafflement in others may give a chance to open an important conversation.

EASTER IS COMING. Easter Sunday is great but why not try and join the Lord on a little bit of his journey through death, into resurrection and beyond! The Easter Triduum services are:  HOLY THURSDAY  8 p.m.Join the Mass of the Lord’s Supper with the washing of feet.    After Mass     Watching in Gethsemane till 10 p.m.

GOOD FRIDAY        3 p.m.             Solemn Commemoration of the Death of the Lord

EASTER VIGIL        8 p.m.             Fire – Light – Resurrection – Vigil of Readings –

Baptism – Confirmation – New Life for All

Masses on easter Sunday are as usual, 8.30 and 10.30

God Bless,                        Fr Doug

Dear Parishioners,

This weekend a Pastoral Letter from Archbishop John is to be read at all masses. It concerns the Assisted Suicide Bill being voted on again in Parliament very soon. The Archbishop is particularly scathing about the poor process with which the debate is being conducted. He asks us to contact our M. P. objecting to the content of the Bill and also to the flawed procedures that he points out.

Please think about doing this.

Alternatively, you might simply take one of the postcards from the foyer that “Not Dead Yet UK” has provided, fill it in and then post it to the House of Commons. You just need to write your M.P.’s name and your own name and address – and add a stamp of course! The card lists some of the arguments against passing the Bill. The organisation is a network of disabled people.

Local M.P.s:  Mr Louie French – Old Bexley & Sidcup

Mr Daniel Francis – Bexleyheath and Crayford

                                              God Bless,          Fr Doug

Dear Parishioners,

LAETARE!

“It is only right that we should celebrate and rejoice.” That’s what the father says in the gospel today, when his “prodigal” son returns. It is the theme of Laetare Sunday: Laetare means Rejoice.

So yes, happy Mothering Sunday.

Rejoice too that Pope Francis has recovered from his illness sufficiently to return home. We keep him in our prayers though.

There is much in all our lives about which to rejoice. Today we count our blessings.

God Bless,                        Fr Doug
