Dear Parishioners,

We come to the last Sunday in the Church year. Next week we begin the season of Advent, a time to reflect on God’s presence in our lives. The climax of the season will be the great Day of Christmas, but there is much to do and think about before that, besides putting up decorations!

If, that is, you aren’t already on the list of those who receive daily emails during Advent from the Diocesan Spirituality Commission. As an aid to prayer during Advent, they have produced a helpful daily reflection based on the readings for the day.  Each is short, practical and calls us to action. YOUTH SUNDAY – Retiring Collection

We are running a programme for young people wishing to be confirmed in June 2026. You should be in Year 8 or above, (aged 13+ during 2025-26) Application forms in the foyer.

 

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2026

Application forms are available in the foyer. Baptised children in year 3 or above are eligible to apply. Feel free to discuss with Fr Doug or Angela Underwood after mass.  Completed forms must be returned by 31st December 2025.  The programme will commence in January 2026.

 

FAMILY CAROL SERVICE & CHRISTMAS SOCIAL

Our service will be at 4.00 in Church on Sunday 14^th Dec and will be followed by a social event in the Hall with refreshments and a Santa Sack for the children.

JESUIT REFUGEE SERVICE ADVENT SERVICE AND RECEPTION

As we begin our preparations for Advent and reflect on the Holy Family’s flight into exile, join the Jesuit Refugee Service for an evening of carols and a performance by their refugee music group.

 

QUIET DAY AT SANCTUARY QUIET GARDEN: 

Saturday Dec 6th – 11am to 3pm – “The light shines in the dark”. Time to prepare to welcome ‘the Light of the World’ this Christmas. Spend some quiet time in prayer and reflection Bring a packed lunch. Donations welcome. Sanctuary, is in Swanley Village. WE MADE THE NATIONAL NEWS … at least, the national CaFOD news! The following note:

“Congratulations to all at St John Fisher parish in Bexley for receiving their Live Simply award! 

This award is a result of the amazing work of the Live simply group at the parish, and all in the community making personal pledges to care for creation in different ways. From pledges to walk to church or switching to a veggie diet, to recycling all the left-over wax from votive candles to make new altar candles; the whole community have made living simply, sustainably and in solidarity with our global family part of their daily life.”

 

Many thanks to those who helped host the funeral for Baroness Howells recently. All our guests were impressed with our hospitality. We can be proud.

Dear Parishioners,

Welcome to all who are here today to remember someone they lost during this past year. We will be praying for each of them by name and lighting a candle for them. 

We remember too, all those whose names are recorded in our parish Book of Remembrance.

And today we pray for those who lost their lives in wartime. 

The whole of November is a time when we pray especially for those who have died and during the month we are encouraged to visit the graves of our loved ones. Priests from around the deanery will be blessing graves according to the following schedule: 

Brook Street on 9^th November at 3:00 pm

Friary Cemetery on 9^th November (after the 8:30 Mass)

Bexleyheath Cemetery on 9^th November at 2:30 pm

Kemnal Park Cemetery on 9^th November at 2:00 pm

Sidcup Cemetery on 16^th November at 2:00 pm

BEXLEY INTERFAITH FORUM

Panel Discussion on Tuesday 11^th November starting at 7.30pm at the Belvedere Gurdwara, 31 Mitchell Close, Belvedere, Kent, DA17 6AA.   This event celebrates Interfaith week.

The evening will look a bit like “Any Questions” on the BBC.  There will be questions and each member of the panel will be expected to answer from the perspective of their faith tradition/religion.
