SHEILA JONES RIP

Please pray for the soul of Sheila Jones. Her funeral will be at 11.30 on Tuesday 2^nd May.

 

PARISH SPIRITUALITY PROGRAMME. ‘QUIET TIME’. 

We hope to build on last year’s ‘Ways into Prayer’ and this year’s Lenten retreat with Five Eastertide sessions – a peaceful, reflective time with The Lord who welcomes our presence and prepares us for Pentecost.

On Tuesdays from 25^th April at 7.30 – 8.30 in church. Come, Taste and See.

 

A QUIET TIME AT SANCTUARY

May 13^th from 11am – 1am. Come away for space and prayer reflecting on themes of resurrection and ascension, with plenty of quiet time – For more information or to book – please email tkilcullen@live.co.uk or call 07977978536 

For those who like to plan – future dates for Quiet Mornings/Days will be 17^th June/ 22^nd July/ 12^th August/16^th September/ 14^th October 

You may also be interested in: First Fridays – open garden at Sanctuary: 

There is also a regular ‘open garden’ – so the side gate at Sanctuary will be open between 10am and 4pm on the first Friday of the month – for you to wander in, find a place to sit, bring your prayer book and take your own personal space for reflection. The prayer cabin, toilets and refreshments will be available. Starting May 5th, then June 2^nd etc.  No need to book if you just want to drop in – just turn up make the most of the space! 

 

DEFIBRILLATOR

Many thanks to the parishioner who enabled the Benenden Trust to present us with a defibrillator. It si now in the hallway between the Church and the Parish Hall. We all hope that we will never be called upon to use but if someone’s heart stops beating, you need to obtain a key from the sacristy of the church or the kitchen of the hall, and a set of spoken instructions will guide you step by step.

 

COFFEE AFTER MASS

Refreshments are served in the hall every week after 10.30 Mass and all are welcome.  We need or 2 more people to join the Kitchen Rota – this would mean helping once every 6 weeks. Please consider joining the Rota to help the existing volunteers – contact Anne Rayer. (07855 785331).

 

SOUTHWARK VOCATIONS

PRIEST TRAINING FUND SECOND COLLECTION 30^TH APRIL

Good Shepherd Sunday is the day we pray for vocations, for our priests, and we take up the Priest Training Fund collection. This fund pays for the formation of men to become priests. We have 3 men in formation to the Priesthood for our Archdiocese It costs £30,000 a year to sponsor each seminarian. They study for 6 years before being ordained a Catholic priest. Happy Easter, Everyone. 

Yes, it is still Easter and will be until Pentecost Sunday.

 

First of all, let me again offer my personal thanks for your Easter offering, your very generous gift to me. I also enjoy the many cards and other gifts besides. 

We welcome members of the Knights of St. Columba to our 8.30 mass, which they have asked to be offered in thanksgiving. If you want to know anything about this fraternity, I am sure there will be plenty of members who’d be only too pleased to help you after the mass.

I am taking a holiday next week, Sat 22^nd April till Sat 29^th April. Fr. Peter will be saying the masses throughout that week.

Happy Easter, Everyone! 

May heaven be praised, may God be adored.

Everything is changed for I have seen the Lord!

 First of all, a big welcome to any visitors to the Church today to celebrate this great event of Easter. Everything is indeed changed, particularly our understanding of ourselves and of our future.

 

What a joy it has been – so far(!) – to celebrate Easter here at St. John Fisher. We have been able to journey with the Lord on a Way that led him through suffering and death to joy and new life. That journey also describes our path and our calling through difficulties, through suffering and yes, through death to joys and to new life. We place therefore with Him.

 Let me thank everyone involved: The stewards, the readers, the cleaners, the altar servers, the sacristans, those who have led the Stations of the Cross, those in the music ministry, the person who produced our Easter Garden, and of course those responsible for the wonderful floral display.

I also offer my personal thanks for your Easter offering, your gift to me.

 In case you weren’t here last week let me repeat my notice about the card we received from King Charles. When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth died we compiled a Book of Sympathy and sent it to Buckingham Palace. We got a reply from King Charles last week. He writes: 

It was so very kind of you to send such a wonderfully generous message following the death of my beloved mother. Your most thoughtful words are enormously comforting, and I cannot tell you how deeply they are appreciated at this time of immense sorrow. Charles R
