Dear Parishioners,

We will celebrate the Feast of All Saints on Friday. It is a Holy Day of Obligation.

As we enter November, we in the Catholic Church traditionally try to remember the faithful departed.

Our Book of Remembrance will be available throughout the month for you to once again prayerfully enter the names of your own deceased family members. The book of names will be brought up in the offertory procession of each Sunday Mass.

Remembrance Sunday November 10th We will solemnly remember those who have lost their lives in war.

Sunday, November10th, will also be the day we pray for the parishioners who have died in the course of the past year and whose funerals were hosted here in church. We will be reading out each of their names and lighting a candle for them on the sanctuary, We have tried to contact their families and invite them along. Please make them welcome if they come to mass that weekend. We will also be lighting one large candle for everyone else that we want to remember.

Dear Parishioners,

THE VOTE ON ASSISTED SUICIDE – A serious issue for our time!

Kim Leadbeater MP is introducing a bill to introduce assisted suicide, which will be voted on by MPs on the 29 November. We know that assisted suicide laws in other countries have had devastating consequences for the poor, disabled and marginalised. But another group to consider is those with property or a moderate estate who may be explicitly OR IMPLICITLY encouraged to choose assisted suicide rather than see the inheritance to their children depleted by the cost of care. This is a real threat, and we need a huge effort to lobby MPs. Please contact your MP by visiting www.livesworthliving.org.uk It is straightforward. Even I could do it!

We celebrated the feast of St. John XXIII on Friday. He was the pope who summoned the bishops and theologians from around the world to take stock of where the Church stood. At this “Second Vatican Council” teachings were examined, developed and re-expressed, and the liturgies of the Church were all revised. It is hard to underestimate the importance of the Council. It is famously imaged as the opening of the windows of the Church to enable the Holy Spirit to escape (?) and bring the Gospel to the world. We pray that the Church may strive ever harder in this mission to engage with the world and lead mankind into God’s kingdom.
