Happy Easter, Everyone!

May heaven be praised, may God be adored.

Everything is changed for I have seen the Lord!

First of all, a big welcome to any visitors to the Church today to celebrate this great event of Easter. Everything is indeed changed, particularly our understanding of ourselves and of our future.

What a joy it has been – so far(!) – to celebrate Easter here at St. John Fisher. We have been able to journey with the Lord on a Way that led him through suffering and death to joy and new life. That journey also describes our path and our calling through difficulties, through suffering and yes, through death to joys and to new life. We place therefore with Him.

Let me thank everyone involved: The stewards, the readers, the cleaners, the altar servers, the sacristans, those who have led the Stations of the Cross, those in the music ministry, the person who produced our Easter Garden, and of course those responsible for the wonderful floral display.

I also offer my personal thanks for your Easter offering, your gift to me.

In case you weren’t here last week let me repeat my notice about the card we received from King Charles. When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth died we compiled a Book of Sympathy and sent it to Buckingham Palace. We got a reply from King Charles last week. He writes:

It was so very kind of you to send such a wonderfully generous message following the death of my beloved mother. Your most thoughtful words are enormously comforting, and I cannot tell you how deeply they are appreciated at this time of immense sorrow. Charles R

The card is on the sanctuary if you’d like to see it, next to the Easter Garden.                                                                             God Bless,           Fr Doug

PAT LIDDIARD RIP

Please pray for the soul of Pat Liddiard. Her funeral will be in church at 1.00 on April 18th

SHEILA JONES RIP

Please also pray for the repose of the soul of Sheila Jones. Her funeral arrangements will notified in due course.

COFFEE AFTER MASS

Coffee and tea are served in the hall every week following the 10.30 Mass and all are welcome.  We are looking for 2 more people to join the Coffee Rota – this would mean once every 6 weeks. Do please consider joining the Rota to help the existing volunteers – please contact Anne Rayer.  (07855 785331)

GIFT AIDERS’ TAX LETTERS

Dear Parishioners,

Welcome to the start of Holy Week. Next Sunday will be Easter Sunday of course.

It is very easy to jump from Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem (today) to his Resurrection (next Sunday), without, as it were, stopping at the stations in between. It is much better to travel the journey with Our Lord, if possible, by participating in some of the liturgies that take place here in church. (See below)

Do you remember when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth died? We compiled a Book of Sympathy and sent it to Buckingham Palace. We received this reply from King Charles this week:

DIOCESAN LENTEN RETREAT:

You can catch up on the reflection and prayers for Palm Sunday, if you missed the session in our hall on Monday. They will be at:

Tuesday 10.30 – 12.00 URC

Wednesday 7.30 p.m. – 9.00 p.m. St John’s Church

MAUNDY THURSDAY

We remind you that we hope to be able to resume receiving Holy Communion “under both kinds” if we wish to, starting at The Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Maundy Thursday. It will depend on there being sufficient numbers of our Eucharistic Ministers being happy to administer the Chalice. Let us be clear that no one is obliged to receive Holy Communion from the shared chalice and that Jesus Christ is received sacramentally, whole, and entire, under one kind.  The totality of the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of the Lord is received in either or both species.

QUIET MORNINGS FOR HOLY WEEK AT SANCTUARY

To aid space for quiet prayer and reflection 2 quiet mornings are on offer from 10.30 to noon on

Good Friday 7th April and Holy Saturday 8th April. The format is very simple – time to reflect on the readings of the day, with prayer spaces around the house and garden for your own reflection. for info/to book please email tkilcullen@live.co.uk / 077977978536

Dear Parishioners,

In celebration of the Feast of the Annunciation, Pope Francis asks us to renew the act of consecration to Our Lady that took on March 25 last year. Here are the key words of the consecration which we will use in masses this weekend:

Mother of God and our Mother, to your Immaculate Heart we solemnly entrust and consecrate ourselves, the Church and all humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine.   Grant that war may end and peace spread throughout the world.  We trust that, through your heart, peace will dawn once more.  To you we consecrate the future of the whole human family, the needs and expectations of every people, and the hopes of the world.                                             God Bless,                   Fr Doug
