FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2018:  Application forms are now available for the First Holy Communion Programme 2018.Children eligible for First Communion must be in Year 3 or above and should attend mass regularly at St John Fisher Bexley. Application forms can be collected from the back of the Church or please see Angela Underwood. If you are a new parishioner and/or do not attend mass at this parish but wish your child to join the programme, please speak to Father Christian. Completed application forms must be returned no later than  31st December 2017. The programme will commence in January 2018.Full details of the programme and a list of all the relevant dates including parent’s meetings will follow soon. Please look out for future notices in the parish newsletter.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING DAY Saturday 14 October 10.30 am – 3.30pm Baldwyns Park Baptist Church, Dartford Road, Bexley DA5 2AY – Free NHS Health Check for 40-74 year olds, Slimming World, Bexley art group, talks and activities, light refreshments, free entry and goody bag – everyone welcome. PARISH EVENTS TEAM INFORMATION  Upcoming events for your diary:-.

  • Friday Fun Nights 7.30pm – 10.30pmish. Beginners Bridge lessons and bring your own games for young and old. Convivial Bar. These are becoming more popular, though we do not yet have a big enough turnout (20+). If you think this weekly social event is desirable then do join us. Either for beginner’s bridge or just a chat and a drink. Please note we will be closed on October 13th.
  • Meeting Place continues Wednesdays 9.30am – 1.30pm.


OUR LADY’S FILM EVENING: Wed 11 Oct: 2nd part of a deeply inspiring movie on the incredible life of St Padre Pio, The Capuchin Friar who had such great spiritual gifts as mystical prayer, bilocation, reading souls and the stigmata. Film reveals the amazing details and events in his life as a boy and throughout his 50 years as a monk. Bar open, charity stall, all welcome 7pm for 7.30pm start.

TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

The Generous Love of God

The love of God cannot be measured by any human standard. It is incalculable. By human reckoning it must even appear foolish. What sensible employer would behave like the man in the Gospel parable? We see reflection of that love in St Paul’s dilemma. He loved so much that he could not decide whether it was better to live or die.

OUR LADY’S FILM EVENING – Wednesday 27th September: Part 1 of a 2-part movie on the incredible life of St Padre Pio, the Capuchin friar who had such great spiritual gifts as a mystical prayer, bilocation, reading souls and stigmata. The film reveals the amazing details and events in his life as boy and throughout his 50 years as a monk, the frequent attacks of the Devil and the persecution he suffered at the hands of people, including those in the Church. Second part (including a recap) on Wednesday 11th October – watch either or both parts. Bar open, charity stall, all welcome, 7.00pm for 7.30pm start.

SVP AWARENESS MONTH:  Social isolation is the main poverty of our time. When combined with any other kind of poverty, social isolation makes any kind of difficulty much bigger. “Let us allow ourselves to be evangelised by the poor.” This is the very strong message of the Pope, which we consider is the core of our Vincentian commitment, (Bertrand Ousset, former National President of SVO France).
