SPUC White Flower Appeal: We would like to say thank you to all parishioners who gave so generously to the recent White Flower Appeal. The amount raised was £328.18.

EVENTS PLANNING: The Parish Events Planning Meeting took place on the evening of Friday 19^th January. Key points are:

There is an urgent need for funds for essential and expensive repairs to the church central heating and roof. All profits from parish events will go to the Church for this purpose and it is hoped that parishioners will support the events accordingly. It was agreed to hold the following events:

Variety & Cabaret evening probably on 14^th April.
St John Fisher Feast Day & BBQ on 23^rd June
Barn Dance in September
Quiz in October/November ……………………and plan for:
Dinner & Dance
60/70s Disco
Volunteers Party

Recruitment for teams to organise the various events has started and please do add your names to the lists in the porch or with Anne Rayer after 10.30 Mass, or at anne.rayer@uwclub.net. A wide range of talents is required: from preparing or clearing the hall to being able to design and print the tickets needed, or design posters, etc.  YOUR PARISH NEEDS YOU

OUR LADY’S FILM EVENING –  Our next film evening will be on Wed 21st February when we will show a documentary & a short movie on Bl John Henry Newman’s life and places in England where he lived and worked – from London to Oxford, from Littlemore to Birmingham, each revealing an important stage of his life. The films will be shown in the Church Hall, admission is free, light refreshments will be served, bar open, and all are welcome. Arrivals from 7 pm for 7:30 pm start.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY is traditionally observed by Christians around the world from 18-25th January – the Octave of St Peter and St Paul.  Churches Together in Bexley warmly invites you to our annual Unity Service on Sunday 21 January kindly hosted by St John the Evangelist, Penhill Road, DA5 1HX at 3.00pm with light refreshments afterwards. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: The Archdiocese of Southwark is setting up a Diocesan Adoration Lay Committee to develop the practice of Eucharistic Adoration throughout the Archdiocese. You are welcome to attend an Information Meeting in The Centre for Catholic Formation, 21 Tooting Bec Road, London SW17 8BS, on Saturday 3^rd February 2018 at 11.00am (finishing at 12.15pm). THREAT TO CATHOLIC EDUCATION: The Government may be about to renege on its manifesto commitments to remove the 50% cap on Catholic admissions to Free Schools.  It appears that lobbying and letters to MPs have not worked. The Bishops have therefore put an online letter on their website which all Catholics are asked to consider signing. It takes around 3 minutes. Follow the link:  http://cbcew.org.uk/education-cap and then follow the two steps.  If each member gets 3 to 4 people to sign in addition to themselves, then we will begin to approach the kind of numbers that would make a difference.  Best wishes, David O’Mahony, Chairman Catholic Union.

PARISH SOCIAL EVENTS:  Parishioners have identified a number of activities that they would enjoy.  The Events Team has suggested that these might be spread through the year.  Two of these are relatively fixed: June/July St John Fisher Feast Day and BBQ and 31 December – New Year’s Eve Disco. Others that were well liked and could be planned for each quarter: Quiz, 60/70s Night, Variety Night, Dinner and Dance.  Each event needs a small team to plan the event. All parishioners are invited to a meeting in the hall on Friday 19 January at 7.30pm to see what might be involved and become part of one of the teams. If there is no team for an event, that event will not take place. Bar will be open, light refreshments will be provided.
