Dear Parishioners,

It is a generous part of our tradition that we remember those have died, both those recently deceased and those whose anniversaries occur at this time. Our memorial rose garden also reflects our faith in the Communion of Saints and our love for those who have gone before us. But I would also like to add a phrase to the prayer we pray at mass, so from now on:

Eternal rest give unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace AND RISE IN GLORY. Amen.

Also, I did promise that I would do some consultation about music at the 6.00 and 8.30 masses. Please take and return a brief questionnaire. Thank you.

                                                                       God Bless,                        Fr Doug

Dear Parishioners,

Like many others, I enjoy walking around our local area – in and around Bexley. But I very rarely meet anyone I know. Perhaps people walk and shop and so on at different times, I don’t know – or perhaps go out of their way to avoid me!  So, when I see in films or in TV series, characters bumping into each other in the least likely places or scenarios, I think that it is all just too far-fetched and it detracts from the drama. I was much heartened therefore, by a good news story this week about one of the last naval veterans of World War 2. He died at the age of 102 recently but part of his story was that as a naval man he was involved in the evacuation of allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk, only to meet there, his two brothers who were both in the army, fleeing from the enemy forces. They returned to England with him, in his ship. What a joyous experience that must have been in all that terror and chaos. It certainly lifted my heart.

                                  God Bless,                        Fr Doug

Dear Parishioners,

Most of us don’t still go to school, and yet as the autumn term begins, many of us think about the year ahead. In our parish we are planning to have a guided retreat, not in a monastery or convent, but here in our own place.

We are looking forward as well to several days looking at the sacred scriptures of the bible.

During the coming year we will also be offering to prepare young people for the sacrament of Confirmation.

In fact, if anyone is thinking about joining or re-joining the church, now is the time to let us know. The programme gets underway soon.

And also… following a bit of an experiment, at masses on the Feast of the Assumption, we are thinking of introducing the opportunity to sing a hymn or two at the 6.00 and also 8.30 Sunday masses. Now, I realise that many attend these masses because you don’t like music, so during September we will have a consultation and make some decisions after that. You decide!

                          God Bless,                        Fr Doug
