JUBILEE YEAR PILGRIMAGES

Deanery Pilgrimage to St. John Vianney        Saturday 5th July

Our Pilgrimage Opening Service will be here at 10.30. We then make our pilgrimage journey on foot (or by other means) to the designated sacred Jubilee Year Site, St. John Vianney in Bexleyheath, where we will join with the other parishes of Bexley deanery for our concluding service at 1.00. We will have maps and instructions available. There will be time to stop for refreshments on the way. You may choose to bring a picnic for lunch or try one of restaurants on the Broadway or simply leave after the service. It will be a day to bring before the Lord any special or long-term issues in your life or the lives of your loved ones.

A pilgrimage is essentially a personal activity whereby a physical journey or quest helps us focus on our inner journey or quest. Jubilee 2025 encourages us to undertake one.

PETER’S PENCE

Next weekend there is a retiring collection – “Peter’s Pence”. This fund is collected from around the world and enables The Holy Father and the Apostolic See to exercise works of mercy and charity in the world, including victims of wars and natural disasters.

Dear Parishioners,

As we approach the 22nd June and each year we anticipate here in Bexley a parish celebration for our patron saint. We bend a little to celebrate on the nearest Sunday, if not the day itself. However, this year the run of Sundays is prohibitive. Pentecost, Trinity, Corpus Christi, Ss Peter and Paul. These are all important feast in the Church and not even the great St. John Fisher can get a look in! We will have our parish bbq of course (on the 29th) but we won’t engage in any liturgy for St. John Fisher. I am sure he’ll understand!

In passing, let me commend the “Word of Life” to you. The little prayer leaflets in the foyer invite you to take a simple phrase from scripture and allow it to resonate with you over the month. On the leaflet there are a few thoughts but the best ones are your own, inspired as they are in you, personally by God. Word of Life is a Focolare Movement initiative.

God Bless,                                                Fr Doug

CONGRATULATIONS

… to Ann and Peter Wilkes celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Wow!

Dear Parishioners,

We offer congratulations to Albie, Benjamin, Caimh, Emily and Rafferty, who will receive Holy Communion for the first time at mass this Sunday. Welcome to your guests who have come to church to celebrate this special day with you. Congratulations too to your parents who have prepared you for this development in your friendships with Jesus and thanks to our parish catechists who have supported and assisted them.

God Bless,                                Fr Doug

PADRE PIO REHABILITATION CENTRE or “AHOTOKUROM” in Ghana

A huge thank you from Friends of Ahoto for your amazing generosity last week. Your contributions led to a total of £1328, and a charitable foundation matched this amount so that the grand total was £2656. Incredible! This will greatly assist the work at the Padre Pio Rehabilitation Centre in Ghana – providing care, education, and support to people who have leprosy or other disabilities. This donation will help create more good news stories such as those we shared about Evans and Muhammad. If anyone would like to find out more about how you can get involved, please feel free to reach out via Fr Doug. Also, take a look at the parish mission board in the hall.

Thank you all for serving as an answer to our prayers.       Sebastien and Trudy

PARISH AGM

Thanks to everyone who came along last week. It was greatly affirming to those in leadership roles in the parish and hopefully very interesting to take in the breadth of the parish mission.
