We celebrated the feast of St. John XXIII on Friday. He was the pope who summoned the bishops and theologians from around the world to take stock of where the Church stood. At this “Second Vatican Council” teachings were examined, developed and re-expressed, and the liturgies of the Church were all revised. It is hard to underestimate the importance of the Council. It is famously imaged as the opening of the windows of the Church to enable the Holy Spirit to escape (?) and bring the Gospel to the world. We pray that the Church may strive ever harder in this mission to engage with the world and lead mankind into God’s kingdom.
God Bless,
WORLD MISSION DAY
Missio is the Church’s agency for the support of foreign missions. The collection this weekend goes (entirely) to support schools, churches, hospitals and vocations in countries where the Church is new, young, or poor. It works through local bishops and missionary congregations.
Missio red boxes can be emptied, put in an envelope and added to our retiring collection with your name and/or Gift Aid number. Contact Sue Mantle suejmantle@hotmail.com
