Dear Parishioners,
The Euros continue but the election campaigns are over! We congratulate the winners locally and nationally and pray that the new government will act with integrity in trying to serve ALL the people of this country … and beyond. They will need to exercise what in Catholic Social Teaching, is described as the preferential option for the poor, which is a direct expression of Christ’s message. Try “googling” it and see how important this principle is, and how it should be applied in government.
God Bless, Fr Doug
PARISH REGISTER for SICK OR HOUSEBOUND
Partly due to the Covid Lockdown, we no longer have a register of those who are sick or housebound in the parish. We therefore only have contact with a few of them. I want to put this right and once we have an up to date list we will be able to reach out to them. So please help:
If you know of someone sick or housebound (and therefore not coming to church), please give me their name and if possible, their contact details. DO NOT PRESUME that I already know! Catch me in the foyer or out under the canopy after mass, email me, or drop a note through my door. Many thanks, Fr Doug.
STAR OF THE SEA
Seafarers and fishers play a vital role in all of our lives, but they often work in difficult, hazardous conditions. Sea Sunday is Sunday 14th July. It is when the Church prays for all those who live and work at sea. Your support will make a big difference to seafarers and fishers in need. You can donate in church, by visiting www.stellamaris.org.uk/donate, or by texting ‘SEA’ to 70460 to donate £5. This collection is vital to enable Stella Maris to continue its important work, so please give generously. Thank you.
SVP
St.John Fisher Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society would like to thank parishioners for their donations in the recent collection which amounted to £282.92. This will enable us to continue to support vulnerable people in our area.
REFLECTION DAY AT SANCTUARY
“Walking Humbly with God” Saturday July 20th from 11am to 3pm at Sanctuary, Swanley Village. This time for space, prayer and reflection will be led by Chris Chapman and Trudy Kilcullen. We will explore how humility can help us grow in self-understanding and free us to share the best of who we are. For more info or to book email tkilcullen@live.co.uk or call 07977 978536
QUIET DAYS AT SANCTUARY (in Swanley Village)
FIRST FRIDAYS of every month: The garden is open for you 10 – 4. Wander in, find a place to sit, bring your prayer book and enjoy some reflection time. tkilcullen@live.co.uk or 07977978536
CHURCH CLEANING
We are very grateful that a new group of parishioners have volunteered to help with the church cleaning. We now have 6 groups therefore each group will clean every 12 weeks. The revised rota from 8 July is now available for collection from the cupboard.
AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED
It was suggested at the AGM that we could and should support this organisation. If we are to do so we will need a parish promoter. If anyone already has any relationship with them, please let Fr Doug know or if you think you might be able to help, again talk to Fr Doug.
