Dear Parishioners,

Like many others, I enjoy walking around our local area – in and around Bexley. But I very rarely meet anyone I know. Perhaps people walk and shop and so on at different times, I don’t know – or perhaps go out of their way to avoid me!  So, when I see in films or in TV series, characters bumping into each other in the least likely places or scenarios, I think that it is all just too far-fetched and it detracts from the drama. I was much heartened therefore, by a good news story this week about one of the last naval veterans of World War 2. He died at the age of 102 recently but part of his story was that as a naval man he was involved in the evacuation of allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk, only to meet there, his two brothers who were both in the army, fleeing from the enemy forces. They returned to England with him, in his ship. What a joyous experience that must have been in all that terror and chaos. It certainly lifted my heart.

                                  God Bless,                        Fr Doug
